October 1st isn’t just another day, in Disney history, it’s a double Disney birthday bash!

While July 17, 1955, the opening day of Disneyland, still tops Disney park celebrations, October 1 is a close second.

In 1971, Walt Disney World opened its gates in Florida, introducing the Magic Kingdom and three iconic resorts: Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Resort, and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. From the very beginning, Disney set the bar high. Just a few weeks after opening, a massive grand opening celebration featured a 1,000-voice chorus and a 1,076-piece marching band. When Disney throws a party, they don’t hold back, and that first celebration set the tone for decades of magic to come.
