Halloween at Disneyland holds a special place in my heart. While Disney California Adventure hosts the separately ticketed Oogie Boogie Bash, an after-hours, family-friendly event with treat trails, themed entertainment, and ride overlays like Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree, Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween, and Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark, we ultimately decided to skip it this year.

Why? Because for us, the real magic of Halloween is right at Disneyland Park, and it doesn’t require an extra ticket! Much like Disney World’s Not So Scarry Halloween party, Disneyland’s Halloween Time holds a special place in our hearts (minus the Halloween candy and some of the entertainment!)

Disneyland’s Halloween Time: A Ticket-Free Celebration

From the moment you enter the gates, Disneyland feels like a seasonal wonderland. Above the entry turnstiles, pumpkins shaped like favorite Disney characters , Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Pluto greet you with festive flair. Once inside, the Main Street Pumpkin Festival continues the fall magic with hand-carved pumpkins, cozy décor, and plenty of spots for photos and pumpkin-inspired treats.

Every day during the season, characters stroll the park in Halloween attire. You can catch Jack Skellington himself in New Orleans Square and enjoy the fall ambiance without the pressure of long candy lines or separate event tickets.

Haunted Mansion Holiday

No Disneyland Halloween experience would be complete without the Haunted Mansion Holiday. Jack Skellington has decked the halls with frightfully festive touches inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas. Inside, Halloween Town characters like Sally, Oogie Boogie, and friends greet guests with “Season’s Screamings!” The overlay runs through January 6, giving everyone plenty of time to enjoy this seasonal classic.

When the sun sets, the park comes alive with Halloween Screams, Disneyland’s nighttime fireworks spectacular. Your night kicks off with an eerie greeting from “Master of Scare-omonies” Jack Skellington and his ghostly dog Zero, setting the stage for soaring images of Disney villains like Maleficent and Ursula, all synchronized to a medley of Halloween-inspired songs. It’s thrilling, spooky, and perfect for fans of immersive Disney storytelling.

Why We Skipped Oogie Boogie Bash

While Oogie Boogie Bash at California Adventure offers after-hours treats, ride overlays, and special entertainment starting at 6 p.m. (guests with tickets can enter at 3 p.m.), we found that Disneyland Park alone delivered everything we wanted from a Halloween visit. Nostalgia, fall décor, Halloween costumes, seasonal characters, and the Haunted Mansion Holiday made the day feel complete. Plus when walking through California Adventure at night on a non-Boogie Bash night, we still got to see the Halloween decor!

Note: On Oogie Boogie Bash nights, non-party guests from California Adventure often migrate into Disneyland, making the park busier than usual (and a bit cozier than normal too). Even so, the Halloween sights, sounds, and festive atmosphere make it worth visiting.

In short, for our hearts and memories, Disneyland itself during Halloween season is enough magic to skip an extra ticketed event. And honestly, the park’s history, the nostalgia, and the chance to relive those childhood Halloween memories made it a perfect choice.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need a separate ticket to feel like you’re at a Halloween party in Disneyland. Between the Main Street Pumpkin Festival, Haunted Mansion Holiday, and Halloween Screams, the park delivers the thrills, chills, and nostalgia that make the season truly special.
