Dreamers, are you ready for the Disney Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek? This isn’t your average safari ride, it’s a three-hour adventure where you’ll cross rope bridges, spot hippos and crocodiles up close, and even enjoy a private savanna lunch. Whether you’re an animal lover, thrill-seeker, or Disney adventurer, we’re here to share everything you need to know to make the most of this unforgettable trek.
What You Need to Know Before Your Disney Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek
Maybe you’ve got someone in your group who can keep an eye on the kiddos while you go wild for three hours? You’re at least 8 years old and 48 inches tall? And if you’re cool with a little Florida rain (let’s be honest, it’s inevitable) and don’t mind dropping $229–$239 per person for an unforgettable adventure, then my fellow dreamers, buckle up. Because the Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is calling your name!
Note if you said no to any of these, this tour may not be for you.
There is also a wheelchair-accessible trek! You will need to contact Disney to request this accommodation for Wild Africa Trek.

We went into this one with open minds, especially since we’ve been on tours before that didn’t quite live up to Disney’s usual magic.
I’ve always adored the beautifully done Kilimanjaro Safaris. The views, that immersion, the feeling that you’ve just stepped into a safari postcard. But every time we’d spot one of those rugged safari vehicles zipping across the savanna, we’d wonder: Who are those lucky people, and how do we become one of them? We had to find out.
Well, now we know. And we’re here to spill all the safari tea… as the Disney Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek may not be for everyone.
When it comes to dressing for adventure, Dreamers, think safari chic meets comfort queen. Shorts or pants and a comfy shirt are your go-tos, but leave the flip-flops back at the resort, they’re a no-go on this tour! Closed-toe shoes with a back strap (or your trusty hiking boots) are a must. And as cute as that flowy dress might be for photos, save it for dinner at the resort, skirts and dresses don’t mix well with harnesses and rope bridges.

The Early Advantage for Disney Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek
Disney Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek tours are offered at 8:45 AM, 10:15 AM, and 11:45 AM, and since there are no afternoon tours (it’s a full 3-hour experience), we went for the early bird slot at 8:45 AM (must arrive 15 minutes early). With the grandparents holding down fort with the kids at the hotel, we headed into the park before opening. Dreamers, walking through Animal Kingdom when it’s empty is pure magic. The air was still, the sounds of nature echoing softly, it’s like stepping into a tranquil pre-show before the adventure begins.
Gearing Up for the Wild
Note the total time for the Disney Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek experience is 3 hours, but keep in mind that includes check-in, lockers, and suiting up. You’ll get fitted in a harness that makes you feel like Indiana Jones meets Disney royalty. The harness is key, it lets you cross those 2 rope bridges (yes, they sway just enough to make your heart skip) and stand at the edge of enclosures to view hippos and crocodiles closer than you’ve ever dared.
The guides? Absolute gems. Funny, knowledgeable, and 100% focused on education and safety. The vest has pockets galore for all your adventure essentials (not personal essentials though). Just note: the path itself has some roots and uneven ground, so it’s best to bring your sturdy shoes and sense of adventure.

Hippos, Crocs, and Conquering Fears
Our first stop? The hippos. They were shy at first, lounging under the water like divas refusing the spotlight. But thanks to the zookeeper cast member and a mountain of lettuce, we got a full show! Seeing them in such a natural, peaceful habitat was something special, they were clearly living their best lives.

Then came the crocodiles. You know that bridge you see on the safari? That’s where you’ll be! I’ll admit, some of us Dreamers are not exactly fans of heights, but this was the moment to conquer that fear. The rope bridge felt sturdy, and once you looked down (or maybe don’t), the sight of those crocs sunbathing below is unforgettable.

Afterward, you’ll get another chance to observe them up close while the cast members share fascinating crocodile facts and snap plenty of photos for you. Don’t worry about missing your own shots, your guides handle all the photos, and you can download them later for free. How cool is that?

Safari Magic and the Best View in the Park
Next, you’ll hop aboard the private safari vehicle so this is your moment to relax. No more harnesses, just pure views. You’ll see giraffes strolling across the savanna, rhinos grazing, and maybe even catch a few Disney magic moments the regular safari doesn’t get to see. The guides share amazing insights about the animals and how Disney’s team is dedicated to conservation, it’s inspiring to witness firsthand.
And then, the moment that took my breath away. We stopped at a private, open-air hut overlooking the savanna.
Now, let’s talk food, Dreamers! While the menu can change from time to time, expect a flavorful mix of fresh, adventurous bites that fit perfectly with the safari vibe. Think along the lines of savory hummus with warm pita, tasty prosciutto and mozzarella, a Mediterranean-style olive mix, juicy fresh fruit, a light chicken wrap, and even a little seafood surprise like marinated tandoori shrimp.

This was our peaceful lunch spot, complete with fresh tiffins filled with delicious bites and that oh-so-famous POG juice (equal parts passion fruit, orange, and guava, aka the drink of Disney dreams on a hot day). Seriously, this one is a must try at home!

Restrooms were also nearby (so thankful), and honestly, the calm here made it feel like we’d stepped right into a nature documentary. This spot alone was worth the trek!
