If you’ve served our country, first and foremost, thank you. As a former Walt Disney World Cast Member for more than 10 years, I’ve always appreciated how Disney honors military members and their families. The Disney Military Discount is one of the best ways to make a Disney vacation more affordable, but figuring out where to start can feel overwhelming.

This guide is here to simplify everything. Whether you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, or even Disney Cruise Line, here’s what you need to know about the Disney Military Salute program and how to make the most of your well-earned benefits.

Who Qualifies for the Disney Military Discount?

Eligibility can change from year to year, so always verify current requirements before booking. In general, the Disney Military Salute program is available to eligible:

• Active-duty U.S. military
• Retired military
• National Guard
• Reservists
• Other qualifying military personnel and eligible family members

Be prepared to show a valid military ID when purchasing or activating certain offers and again when checking into your Disney Resort hotel.

Disney World Military Discount

The easiest way to purchase Disney Military Tickets is through your local MWR or ITT office. These offices typically sell Military Salute tickets at significant savings compared to regular gate prices.

DO NOT use GOVX for Disney World tickets as you will not get the full discount (Disneyland tickets however are offered here at a full discount).

No military base nearby? Don’t panic. Some military ticket offices may offer remote ordering options, making it easier to purchase your tickets before your vacation. Additionally, you can work with Shades of Green for tickets, more on that below.

Be sure to check current blackout dates, reservation requirements, and ticket options before you travel. And I really mean it as this can ruin your planned vacation.

Disney Military Resort Discount

One of the biggest tips I can share is this: Call Disney directly.

Military resort discounts usually aren’t available to book online. A Cast Member can search Military Salute inventory and let you know what’s available.

If your preferred resort isn’t available, don’t give up. These rooms pop up randomly. Call often and you’re likely to nab a room outside of block out periods.

Inventory changes daily as guests modify or cancel reservations. Calling back another day could make all the difference. Especially if you don’t mind a last minute trip as Disney often releases rooms with a military discount 2 weeks prior.

Keep in mind however that the resorts offered are often Disney Deluxe Resorts and sometimes Moderate resorts. In a nutshell, these are the resorts that will cost more but who’s to say your family is not worth it and the discounts are sometimes incredible. But once you’ve stayed at a Disney Deluxe Resort, I can honestly say, it’s hard to go back! We’ve got the scoop on why here!

Don’t Forget About Shades of Green

Shades of Green is one of the best-kept secrets at Walt Disney World. Located right on Disney property, this military resort offers spacious rooms, great amenities, transportation to the parks, and a ticket office where eligible guests can purchase Disney Military Tickets.

Even if you aren’t staying there, it’s worth learning about everything Shades of Green offers military families.

Disneyland Military Discount

Disneyland offers incredible savings through the Disney Military Salute program.

Military Salute tickets are typically purchased through MWR or ITT offices, and eligible guests can also receive outstanding savings at Disneyland Resort hotels. GOVX offers full discounts on their website for Disneyland…but not Disney World as the savings are less so its best to go though base or Shades of Green for Disney World tickets (as of July 2026).

Unlike booking online, a Cast Member can search for Military Salute room availability over the phone. Availability changes constantly, so don’t assume “no” today means “no” tomorrow. We recently called Disney to check military pricing for Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. The Military rate for our stay came to about $1,900 including taxes. When I priced the exact same room and dates online, even with a public promotion, it was more than $3,200.

One phone call saved our family over $1,300.

That’s why I always recommend asking about the Disney Military Hotel Discount before booking.

Disney Cruise Line Military Rates

Planning a Disney cruise? Disney Cruise Line offers 20-30% off standard voyage fees for select sailings, one stateroom per service member (military member must be present when sailing).

Who qualifies?

• Active-duty U.S. military
• Retired military
• National Guard
• Reservists
• Other qualifying military personnel and eligible family members

Disney Cruise Line frequently releases special military rates on select sailings throughout the year.

Availability varies by itinerary, so flexibility is your best friend. To see some of the dates currently being offered, Disney Cruise Line has a an eligible rates page on their site or you can call Disney Cruise Line directly at (800) 951-3532

Military rates can sell out quickly, so check often if your preferred sailing isn’t available right away.

Disney Military Discount Tips

Here are a few things I always recommend:

• Purchase your Disney Military Tickets through MWR or ITT whenever possible.
• Call Disney directly to ask about Military Salute hotel availability.
• Bring your physical military ID.
• Wear your Military Appreciation button proudly if you’re offered one.
• Don’t miss the daily Flag Retreat ceremony on Main Street, U.S.A. It’s one of Disney’s most meaningful traditions.

Are Disney Extras Worth It?

Honestly…not always. Disney offers plenty of extras, but not every upgrade is necessary.

The one upgrade I often recommend is Memory Maker at Walt Disney World or PhotoPass benefits when available at Disneyland. Having everyone in the family together in your vacation photos is something you’ll never regret, and military pricing can make it an even better value.

Memory Maker lets you download all of your Disney PhotoPass photos and participating attraction photos taken during your Walt Disney World vacation. It’s one of my favorite upgrades because everyone gets to be in the picture instead of someone always standing behind the camera. Through December 18, 2026, eligible military members can add Memory Maker for just $98 as part of the Disney Military Salute offer (a special pass only available through December 18, 2026), making it one of the best Disney military discounts available.

At Disneyland, Disney PhotoPass gives you unlimited digital downloads of photos taken by Disney PhotoPass photographers throughout the parks. Instead of a separate military discount, PhotoPass is often included when you purchase Military tickets with Lightning Lane Multi Pass. If you plan to use Lightning Lanes, it’s a great way to enjoy shorter waits while capturing all of your vacation memories.

Lightning Lanes can also be worth considering if your goal is maximizing rides with less waiting, especially during busy times of year.

But keep in mind that the special events Disney offers do not offer a Military discount. And quite honestly, we do not think all Disney’s special events are worth the money unless you know what to expect
