Disney Resort Transportation Guide: Buses, Monorail, and Skyliner Tips

Disney Resort Transportation Guide: Buses, Monorail, and Skyliner Tips

Hey dreamers! There are so many ways to get around the Walt Disney World Resort, and if you’re staying at a Disney resort hotel, you’re in for some seriously convenient perks with Disney Resort Transportation.

You’ll get complimentary access to Disney’s bus system, which will whisk you to all four theme parks, Disney Springs, and the water parks. Some resorts even offer extra options like the Disney Monorail and the Disney Skyliner.

Disney Bus Transportation

Buses are the backbone of Disney transportation. They run frequently and reliably, and if you’re staying on property, they is no cost for using the buses. Just know that sometimes delays happen, especially during peak times or bad weather, so always plan a few extra minutes when hopping from park to resort.

Dreamers Tip: At a Disney bus station, look up! There are screens at each bus station that show how long of a wait it is until your bus arrives.

Bus Hours:

Buses generally operate from 45 minutes before a theme park opens until 1 hour after it closes.

Disney Monorail Resorts

Some resorts give you the ultimate shortcut to the parks via the monorail. These include Disney Polynesian Resort, Disney Contemporary Resort, and Disney Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Disney Resort Transportation EPCOT monorail

Disney Monorail

These resorts not only offer monorail access to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, but they also have walkways to Magic Kingdom if you prefer to skip the crowds after fireworks. For example, the Contemporary is just a 10–15 minute stroll, while Polynesian is closer to 20 minutes but TOTALLY worth it when doing Magic Kingdom.

Dreamer Tip: After fireworks, skip the monorail crush and enjoy a peaceful evening stroll back to your resort. Sometimes walking is faster than waiting in the lines to get on the resort monorail.

Monorail Hours:

The Resort Monorail and Express Monorail begin operating 30 minutes before Magic Kingdom opens and stop 1 hour after Magic Kingdom closes.

The EPCOT Monorail begins operating 30 minutes before EPCOT opens and stops 2 hours after EPCOT closes.

Disney Skyliner Resorts

Love a scenic ride and a soft breeze above the resort? The Disney Skyliner connects guests to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios from Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Riviera Resort.

Disney Skyliner

Huge Heads up: The Skyliner will be closed for refurbishment Jan 25–31, 2026, and Jan 24–30, 2027. During these times, buses will cover the same routes.

Also note that weather can also change the plan in a heartbeat, lightning or heavy rain means a bus replacement, sometimes with long lines.

Skyliner Hours:

  • Opens 1 hour before Early Theme Park Entry at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios
  • Closes 90 minutes after park closing
  • On EPCOT Extended Evening Hours nights: closes 1 hour after EPCOT closes; BUT keep in mind that only the Riviera Resort service is available

Dreamer Tip: Take the Skyliner back to your resort BEFORE the park closes to avoid the long lines! And believe me, they can get long when it’s busy!

Walkable Resorts

As mentioned, some resorts are extra convenient for walking to the parks, especially after a long day: Magic Kingdom favorites include Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary, while EPCOT International Gateway is easily accessible from the BoardWalk, Yacht Club, and my personal favorite, Beach Club. Want to know just why Beach Club has a special place in my heart? Check out why!

Walking can save you time and let you skip long lines!

A Note on Costs

Dreamers, let’s be real, staying at a Disney resort with extra transportation perks isn’t cheap. Resorts with monorail or Skyliner access include Polynesian Resort, Contemporary Resort, Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Riviera Resort, and they come with a higher price tag.

The convenience, skipping long lines, walking straight to the park, or hopping above the resort on the Skyliner, can be worth every penny if it fits your budget.

Dreamer Tip: Compare nightly rates vs. transportation convenience, sometimes a cheaper resort plus buses works out just as well if you plan carefully.

All in all, Staying at a Disney resort means you’re in good hands. Disney transportation is reliable, fun, and mostly stress-free, but always be prepared for delays or unexpected closures. And I have had them happen, they are not fun but it is rare that it does happen.

So dreamers… what do you think about the upcoming Skyliner closures? Will you plan around it, or just embrace the bus adventure?
