On September 21, 20/20 debuted a special edition episode: The Happiest Story on Earth: 70 Years of Disneyland. It’s a celebration of seven decades of joy, imagination, and innovation inside Walt Disney’s original park.

From a field of orange groves in Anaheim to a place visited by millions from around the globe, Disneyland was born from Walt’s relentless vision and creativity. What started as a dream many thought would fail became a living, breathing world of imagination, a place where families could come together to step into stories, not just watch them. Seventy years later, the park still stands as a testament to dreaming big.

The special dives into how Disneyland was once predicted to fail, only to become the gold standard of theme parks. It walks through its lands, from Frontierland to Tomorrowland, and shows us how iconic attractions came to life. Along the way, there are rare behind-the-scenes glimpses of Walt Disney himself, plus surprises, secrets, and stories that make Disneyland so beloved.
