UPDATE: An Iconic Disneyland Ride Is Getting a Tangled Twist

Get ready to let down your hair because a brand-new fairytale is floating into Fantasyland! If you visited Disneyland recently, you may have noticed that  the Storybook Land Canal boats are under refurbishment. Just why? We now have an official answer!

A miniature of Rapunzel’s Tower, inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Tangled, is joining one of Disneyland’s most beloved attractions, Storybook Land Canal Boats.

The debut will take place during the Disneyland Resort’s 70th Celebration, adding a golden new glow to this classic voyage.

This charming tower will rise right between the Patchwork Quilt and Toad Hall, blending seamlessly into the whimsical world of storybook miniatures. And because Disney magic is all about the details, there’s music too!

By day, guests will hear a delightful arrangement of “When Will My Life Begin?” echoing from Rapunzel’s Tower, conjuring up images of painting, baking, and maybe a little daydreaming. But once the sun sets, the tune shifts to the romantic “I See the Light” as soft, winking lights shimmer across the canal, recreating that unforgettable lantern-lit moment between Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Pure fairytale perfection.

Please note, if you’re visiting anytime soon, a reopening date has not been confirmed however Disney does state that the attraction will open later this year, and just in time for the 70th Anniversary Celebration, too!

But let’s rewind for a little Disney history (you know we love that around here at One Man’s Dreamers). Storybook Land Canal Boats has been a part of Disneyland’s story since opening day on July 17, 1955 when it first set sail as Canal Boats of the World.

It was later reimagined and reopened in June 1956 as the Storybook Land Canal Boats we know today, transforming simple waterways into a breathtaking tour of miniature worlds from beloved fairytales.

Here’s where it gets personal, Dreamers. I created One Man’s Dreamers in honor of Walt Disney, so Walt’s history isn’t just something I admire, it’s a cornerstone of everything we do here. Walt’s fascination with miniatures wasn’t just a hobby; it was a window into his imagination. He collected tiny pieces from around the world and dreamed of creating little stories inside them. That passion inspired this very attraction, proof that even the smallest creations can tell the biggest stories.

Over the decades, the canal has continued to evolve, introducing new scenes from all the classic we know today, each one crafted with the kind of detail that makes Walt’s legacy shine on.

And for me? This one’s personal. Storybook Land Canal Boats is my dad’s favorite ride so it is a “must ride” everytime we go, and honestly, I get it. It’s one of the most intricately designed attractions in all of Disneyland. From the sculpted gardens to the glimmering water, it’s pure storytelling magic from bow to stern.

Oh, and here’s a little piece of Disneyland trivia to tuck away: that red-and-white striped lighthouse near the queue? It once used as a ticket booth, back when this was a “D Ticket” attraction!

BONUS! If you’re visiting Disneyland this holiday season, be on the lookout for an extra dash of wonder. Storybook Land gets a sprinkle of winter cheer each year, with wreaths, garlands, and even a dusting of snow, making the ride feel like something straight from a Christmas card.

So, Dreamers, are you ready to set sail and spot Rapunzel’s Tower glowing along the canal when Storybook Land reopens this winter? Because we’re pretty sure Walt would be smiling down at this one.
